Las Fallas - the last days

Ola all!

Today is the last day of Las Fallas. The grand finale. The big blowout. Today they go more crazy than they have been all week long. The two o'clock daily fireworks session are supposed to be the largest, the loudest, and the longest yet. Should be really impressive. The other four I have attended almost deafened me! The concussion waves coming off the explosions are impressive.

Last night I attended the biggest of the nightly fireworks sessions, and dudes, it was AMAZING! I am officially ruined for fireworks displays. I was there with a guy from New York City, and he said they were FAR better than any fourth of july fireworks he has ever seen. They just kept going! The sky was ablaze! There was no breeze last night, so the smoke from the works hung in the air while they blasted more and more into it. Balls of fire dripped and fell out of this haze. What a sight. There were a number of them that had us wondering how the heck they made them... Very nifty. Very ruined.

This morning I slept through my alarm and awoke at 10am. It was alright because I was able to attend the opening ceremony that I wanted to - some awards were handed out, some more fireworks and crackers were set off, and then it was off to a very Catholic mass. And that, my friends, is where I saw it! Th withered hand of Saint Vincent The Martyr! Oh, it was so gross! A withered, old, gnarly hand inside a glass box behind a fence. Fantastic!

I must go now - more fireworks and crackers are about to be set off in the main square. I love this town!

Way to be phonetic Shaun.
It's "Hola" not "Ola", dum-dum.
Spanish — Hello: Hola /"Ola/ (OH-La)
