Devin Had Her Baby!
This is the announcement I got in my email this morning from her:
Subject: Rumors are spreading in Wolfville...
...that we have a daughter.
And they're true!!!
Auna Miriam Loughead Folks was born at home following a very quick (4.5h) labor on December 31st 2005 at 7:45am. She weighs 8lbs.8oz. and (surprise...) has a slightly larger head and slightly longer torso tham average. Her face, her skin, her hands, her feet, and every other part of her are absolutely perfect.
We've started our 'babymoon'. Everyone in our family is happily resting and recovering. We've all faced difficulties, but the transition is slowly, smoothly progressing. Auna needed to be resucitated, after some unforseeable labor complications, by her excellent midwives. She waited a while before she started to breathe and to cry. Mama lost a lot of blood and is recovering from some painful lymphatic system problems. For the first few days, Papa had a hard time waking up (unless his daughter had a need to attend to). Mama, on the other hand, is having a hard time getting to sleep. Auna is a remarkably peaceful and patient baby, who has now slept through the night twice in a row (save short wakeful periods to nurse). When she wakes and opens her eyes, it's impossible not to lose yourself in her face when she stares, fascinated, into yours. Breastfeeding is going well, and Papa is already a Cloth Diaparing and Swaddling Expert. Auna loves it when we sing to her, and let her suck on our pinky fingers. Our family is happily nestled into our bed, and not accepting visitors for another week. We thank you so much for your love, support, and well wishes.
